Lunch 11 AM May 4, Cozy Cafe, Fairview, KS

Post by schoolmaster »

We had a great turnout from our Eastern Kansas group at the Rendezvous last week, but they should all be home by now, and it also looks like we're in for a run of pretty decent motorcycle weather with sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 70's. So whoopee, let's get out and ride!! We visited this place last summer and it was a real hit. Food was just like home-made and the service was excellent, served in a homey environment in a business that has been family owned for over 50 years in the same spot. So we're going to meet up for lunch at the:

Cozy Cafe

This place is off of the highway in the "commercial" district (uh, it's the only real street in Fairview) so once you've found Commercial Street, the Cozy Cafe is right in the middle of it.
Linda didn't know what the special would be but they alway have roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy and a vegetable. The menu is up on the board and it changes daily.

The first time I set up this ride last year, they were a little hesitant to schedule it for a bunch of motorcycle hooligans, but when I told her that it was the ROMEOS coming back, she was delighted to have us. I did mention that Mike Herman might be there and she still said it would be ok! So, it looks like a beautiful day, a unique restaurant with excellent food, and a chance to hang out with good friends, so I hope you can make it.

And as always, thanks to Gary:

This would probably be a pretty good time to eat since they have a pretty sizable regular lunch crowd and this would allow us to clear out by the time their regulars start to arrive!

RIDE REPORT: May 4, Cozy Cafe, Fairview, KS

It was a fabulous day for a motorcycle ride and the Cozy Cafe is an excellent lunch destination with excellent food, service, and plenty of free parking! According to Hoser there were at least 34 motorcycles parked on Commercial Street in Fairview at one time and there were about 40 ROMEOS that took advantage of the dining opportunity inside. And after a successful ROMEO gathering, there was lots of discussion about post-ROMEO destinations. I happened to go with 6 other ROMEOS on what turned out to be an epic pie ride that took us into 4 states and a 325+ miles total that landed me home at nearly 7 o'clock. Fortunately I'd gotten hungry again so I could eat the great dinner that my wife had prepared. (I'm also smart enough to have called her around 4:30 and warned her that I might be a little late; otherwise that great dinner might have been dumped in a bowl outside in the garage!) As it turned out, as Linda noted, it was another great day to be a ROMEO!

When I arrived around 10:30 there were already 25 bikes parked on the street and already inside.

These three specials all looked delicious and the choice of sides was extensive. I could have made a meal on just the breaded tomatoes, they were just that good!

I think this was a "where to go for pie" discussion.

This belonged to a first time ROMEO attendee. He arrived after I was outside so didn't get to meet him yet, but he was introduced to our group by Grandpa Jack. Gotta admire the dedication to pursuing your dreams no matter the obstacles!

This happened to be a stop on our "pie ride". This is the lobby of the Lied Conference Center Hotel in Nebraska City-what a beautiful place. The also have a restaurant called the Pie Center that features apple pie from the trees on their property.
