Guys - I've been gone for a while after the last lunch ride to another one of my granddaughters graduations so I haven't had the time to do justice to my normal search process in coming up with another little place to go for this coming Wednesday. However, after the lunch last week I took a trip by myself (couldn't get any of the rest of the guys to go with me due to the nasty clouds rolling in) to an Ice Cream Place I spotted some time ago and low and behold they also serve meals. I did not know that nor does their sign seem to reflect that fact. Thank goodness for little favors!
Now, it's Monday and a Holiday and I can't get anyone to answer the phone so I'm going to take the easy way out and go back to the place for lunch. It's a small place and if we get a huge turnout, we may have to take turns but they said the special was chicken fried steak. Every other Wednesday the special is bierocks and that was last week so this I think will go over better anyway. The town is only 400 strong so as you might guess, the're not overrun with business and certainly could use our help.
They must be doing something right however because this is the beginning of their second year. I can't believe I've let this one slip by this long!
Here's the place....................Soda 'N' Suds

Guys - As Joyce and I pulled up to the main intersection in Roxbury, I leaned over and said.....I forgot Gary! Oh no! Yep, in our never ending quest to always do things at the last minute, we constantly are forgetting something, but....Gary!
I was ready to go when Joyce thought of something that could have waited until later but if you know her, it's 'gotta be done RIGHT NOW! Shae had to deposit some money into her mom's near dormant checking account. Mecicare or someone else had paid too much into it and wanted it back upon her death. Reasonable enough but why right now!
I took of to go to Kaps, the local meeting up place, to wait on Gary! On the way there, I saw Joyce returning and she said aren't you 'gonna wait for me without slowing down on the way back to the house. I tried to convey that I was going to Kaps but something got lost in the translation. As I got closer to the corner to turn, I saw the Salina guys rumble past. I figured they would stop at Kaps and we would meet up and go on over together but when I arrived, they were long gone.
What to do.... Did Gary show up and decide to just ride over with them? Will Joyce cool off, swap her 50 for her bigger bike and come on down or..... what to do.....
As I was pondering the options, I saw a headlight heading my way from up North. As it got closer and closer I could see it was Joyce. She pulled in and said let's go and I tried to tell her to maintain a speed of 50 mph. A comfortable speed for both of us and one that won't harm the engine on her new scoot that's still in it's break in period.
By the time we had gone under the I-135 overpass, I had had enough of the dawdling at 45 and got up beside her and motioned that she was just clicking off 45mph. She motioned that it was reading 50 so now I know we have a speedometer error in one or the other and I've ridden enough on my V-Star with my GPS to know it wasn't me. She is reluctant to take anything I say at face value so it took a while to convince her it wasn't me and we finally got up to a speed that allowed me to get out of 4th gear.
By the time we got to the Roxbury intersection, it dawned on me that I had gone off and left Gary. We were to meet at 10:30 and it was probably 25 after when we took off. My bad!
What to do..... I hate it when I screw up! I sent Joyce on ahead and I said I would just wait at the corner for Gary and ride on in with him the rest of the way. What if he didn't come this way? What if he just turned around and went home thinking that I didn't want to ride with him? What if.... I played that little game in my head 'till I was becoming paranoid! I've 'gotta focus on something else I told myself when all of a sudden I heard something above and behind me. PIGEONS! They're always good for some amusement. And they were. I became so engrosed in their coming and going and cooing that I almost faile to see Gary as he came rolling into Roxbury. All is well in life again!
By the time we arrived in Canton, I spotted one of the Salina guys who said that the first shift is just finishing. With seating of just about 20 or so, we had pretty well packed the place. By official count, we had a total of 34 sigh the register today but a few from Wichita decided to not wait it out and went on over to Galva to the little chicken place instead. No problem here since we were beginning to encroach upon noontime and regular business.
When I finally sat down, I ordered up the 'special' and it was in fron of me within minutes. Fast service, great chicken fried steak. This place is on my favorites list from now on, just be aware of seating capacity!
Mitch Albertson from Towanda earned himself the coveted high mileage award and a cup of ice water to go, should he have asked for it, by riding a whopping 70 miles to lunch on his undesignated model of Suzuki.
We really did have som hum dingers of bikes show up today and if you took of early, you missed one of our ROMEO guys that lives right there in Canton show up with his son, both riding vintage pieces to cherish. Son, on a white R-26 250cc BMW of 1960 vintage and pop on a white /5 BMW. Both daily runners. Fun to see these old bikes still being used as intended!
In my hast today, I forgot my precious phone camera and thus was unable to take any photos of the great turnout we had so if any of you would be so kind....please post them on this message for all to see. If you send 'em to me, I'm to stupid on this computer to know what to do with 'em.
