It looks like it's going to be a great day for a ride on Wednesday because at this point the forecast is for the temperature to not get out of the 80's with clear skies and just a light breeze. Sounds a lot like Florida without the Zika Virus, messy palm trees and a lot of old people...uh, we'll maybe not that if the ROMEOS show up in full force. But, just because some of us are aging a bit, I think we're doing it quite nicely, we might as well do it by celebrating with a late breakfast or early lunch at the:
Saddlerock Cafe

It's been nearly a year since we visited the Saddlerock and Crystal was delighted that we were returning. They serve breakfast until 11 and then it's on to lunch. Since this is a lunch ride, somewhere in the 10's would be a good time to arrive and then you can decide whether you are going to partake in breakfast or one of the great sandwiches or salads that they serve.
Now if there are people reading this that are sensitive to the sight of nature at work, survival of the fittest, dog eat dog, the food chain in action, then you'd best not look at this next photo because it could cause a reaction or send little children running to hide behind their mother, so be warned. I am not responsible if you look at this picture after you've been warned.

OK, if you've made it this far and you're up for some adventure plus a ride through the Flint Hills on a gorgeous late summer day, then join me for lunch at the Saddlerock Cafe on Wednesday!
And thanks to Gary, the location of all ROMEO rides for next week can be found at:

What a nice day for a ride and no matter what route you take to Council Grove there is some great scenery through the Flint Hills. According to Hoser, who diligently manned his post in the parking lot, said that there were at least 42 motorcycles parked all around the Saddlerock this morning. I know we filled up the back room a couple of times between breakfast and lunch riders.
Council Grove is a fabulous place to visit with many historical sites that are worth taking the time to visit. If you haven't done it, you should definitely plan a trip, and then you could head over to Hwy. 177 for a visit to the Grasslands Prairie National Reserve on your way home. That would make for a great day, just like today's was a great day to be a ROMEO!

- Not sure what the Guiness Book of World Records is for most motorcycles under one shade tree, but the ROMEOS were trying to break it!

- Hoser, resting up from counting. I'm not sure why the bright glow is coming from John's head, but the last time anything like that was seen was on a winter night in Bethlehem. Thanks to Junior and Shirley for riding up to join us again.

- This was a famous food stop on the old Santa Fe Trail. There is still a working restaurant in there and the workers are in period costume. I've not eaten there but I understand that it is a fun place to visit and a pretty good place to eat.

- The Farmers and Drovers Bank is a fabulous building. The F150 drove by just as I was taking the picture. Oh well, probably fitting because the bank is probably holding the note on the truck, as expensive as new pickups are these days!

- In my yard when I have a stump, I grind it out. But in Council Grove, if it's the famous Council Oak where the Plains Indian tribes met frequently and where treaties were signed, you need to put a roof over it to preserve this fabulous piece of Kansas history.

Hey Mick:
I did exactly just what you said
. Filled the tank in Council Grove and headed south on KS177. The Tallgrass Prairie was still green and the views were excellent. Here are two pictures of the route I took back to sunny and hot Chanute.
