It's hard to believe that this is the last ride of July and we're still trying to schedule around rain!! Thanks to Swanee for scheduling rides the last two weeks. He picked some great places and we had great attendance at both restaurants in spite of the weather! This week is no different with a 40% chance of rain, but the way it has been, you can never tell almost up to the day when or where it might happen. So we'll just move on and schedule because you guys show up no matter what anyway.
This week we are going to return to a new old place that has been closed since last January because of a fire. I talked to Rose this morning and they have just reopened their brand new restored place at the same old spot and she is excited about having us. I have scheduled this as a lunch ride but Rose's Downtown Cafe is open for breakfast as well for those that want to eat a little earlier. They stop serving breakfast at 10:30 and start serving lunch at 11:00 so it should work for both preferences. The lunch special on Wednesday will be meatloaf, and there is no breakfast special (besides, you can only do just so much with bacon and eggs ).
So let's give Rose's new old place a good start by meeting up on July 29 for brunch at:
Rose's Downtown Cafe
522 Liberty Street
Oskaloosa, Kansas
785-863-3374
Just want all to know I just spoke with Sharon Eulert and she us going to try to make it to this Romeos. She will be there around 9:30 to see the breakfast crowd and stay for about an hour or so.
A pretty good storm rolled through eastern Kansas this morning bringing lots of lightning and over an inch of rain which probably scared off some riders, especially the early birds. But by 9:00 things started looking better and it turned out to be a beautiful, cool morning for a lunch ride. In fact, 38 ROMEOS, most on motorcycles, made it for the debut of Rose's Cafe in beautiful downtown Oskaloosa.

Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves this morning after a nice cool morning ride. Lots of visiting and folks didn't seem to be in any hurry to leave. Thanks to everyone who showed up to break in Rose's newly remodeled space. Turned out it was a great day to be a ROMEO!!

Mike's grandson Marshall attended today's ride. He is going to be a sophomore at Shawnee Mission North and the reason he came today is his grandpa promised him it would be a great chance to meet girls! Sorry Marshall, but it was nice to have you join us anyway!!

If this water tower was any skinnier, they'd just have to call the town Osky!

These old cat heads will show up anywhere. Apparently John E. hit this one when he was backing up. That must be the reason he's trying to sell this motorcycle?

If you'll compare this window to the picture of the pre-fire window in the ride announcement, it's just become Rose's Cafe, no more Downtown.

It was really nice to have Sharon Eulert join us today. She is catching up on all the gossip from Linda and Alana.

This started out to just be the "ladies' table, but it quickly filled up because we pretty much filled Rose's by the time everyone arrived.

Rose had plenty of specials today, but the most popular by far was the meatloaf.

Welcome to 2 of our newest ROMEOS. Ed (on the Wing) made it all the way from suburban Oskaloosa and Conrad joined us from Overland Park. Conrad asked what it took to officially join this group and I told him he pretty much had. He showed up.

This was pretty much the scene after lunch. Lots of small group discussions.
Mick, Marshall wanted to thank you for photo's! He said it was a fun, and educational day--I'm not sure if that was good or bad! He had a great time, nice cool ride (and, obviously, a cool co-rider), no rain, lunch, ice cream, AND, got 3 new Facebook friends!! Apparently, the Romeo granddaughter's also check out our website. He wanted me to thank you all for making him feel welcome, and hopes to do it again--hopefully sooner than later.
Mike
P.S. Oh, yea, he did mention that he goes to Northwest, not North, but that's OK (it's the thought that counts!).
Marshall,
I'm glad you enjoyed the day and I apologize for the mistake. I do remember now that you said Shawnee Mission NorththWEST!! Go COUGARS!! Have a great school year!
Mick Lowe
