Wednesday North Central ROMEO Lunch Ride for 5-13-15

Post by Richard »

Guys - This rides for Denny! Denny has some friends coming up and promised them a ROMEO Lunch Ride and a trip to the Kansas Motorcycle Museum so to enable him to fulfill his promise to them I'm going to make it easy to kill two birds with one stone so to speak. It will be an easy trip for ice cream for the rest of us as well to head back from lunch and hit Marquette for some 'creem and we may even take a moment to stroll thru the wonders of time as displayed in the museum. I particularly like to look at my old 'water buffalo'. It seems fitting since the last ride it was on was a ROMEO lunch ride prior to its inclusion into the museum quite a few years ago. I actually rode it thru the front door and handed it over to Stan. It was the last bike to be admitted under its own power he said.
Well, 'nuff about that.........

Here's the time.........................................11:30 am

Here's the place...................................T-Bird Center Store
221 S. Main St.
Bushton, Kansas 67427

As always......................ride careful, ride safe and I'll see you in Bushton. Richard

Guys - Talk about variety, we had it today both in bikes and places from which we came.
I gassed up right before I left home but I don't have a cup holder on my Ural so Joyce was relegated to hanging onto it as we headed West. It wasn't the best of plans. My regular cup that fits my holder has a secure lid. If that tells the tale of what was about to come, you're not follong my story. By the time we hit Geneseo, she had my cup of what used to be hot coffee all over her. I pulled over to get a drink from what was left and a couple of motorcycle travelers pulled up to the pumps to get gas and I went over for a visit. We were early for lunch so I thought what would it hurt. They were from Pennsylvania and headed to Colorado so I told them about lunch and invited em along. Surprisingly, they agreed and followed us in line only to succeed in winning the coveted high mileage award for long distance. Nice guys, both and I love their nicknames..Beer Breath and Fall Guy. The first name is obvious as to how it was acquired but the second was as well after the stories of his lapse of balance shall we say!
We by chance also had a couple others who travelled from Texas some 650 miles away to see it slip away.
The special was a hamburger basket with a fried egg topping. Yes, you heard that right and mine was pretty good actually.
I think joyce thought hers was too squishy. Can't please everyone said Ricky Nelson in a song!
The turnout was fantastic. While we were at Geneseo a Red Wing flew by and I couldn't tell who it was but as we got there, it was Roger Shores from the Ks. City group. He had arrived to deliver the Ride Around Arkansas DVD video to me and John.
What a nice thing to do. He also got to sell a long sleeve shirt to one of the Texas guys since I don't handle long sleeves any longer. Ask me why sometime.
Thirty-eight signed the book today and came from 13 different places. About the widest area we have ever drawn from. And 9 different kinds of brands of bikes were represented. If a few of our oddball outriders had showed up we would have really made a statement. As it was it was a feast for the eyes.
Glad to see you guys today and hope you all made it home safely and dry!

Just a note of heads up for this saturday if the weather is favorable....it's Thunder on the Smoky in Marquette, Kansas, home of the Kansas Motorcycle Museum. If you don't already have big plans come on over and have a day of fun.

Road construction warning.
There is road construction on US 56 at the west edge of Lyons. The road surface is extremely poor and has many holes.
K 14 north and south thru Lyons is in good shape. The Dairy Queen is only two blocks west of K 14 and is a good place to get coffee if you want to take a little break.
