Wednesday North Central ROMEO Lunch Ride for 11-14-12

Post by Richard »

Guys - Here's the deal. Since I'm a winter time wimp, I admit it, and since next Wednesday is predicted to be only 55 degrees for a high, I'm really going to pull in the reins and pick one close by.
If it were to be 5 degrees colder I would have called off the ride altogether since 50 degrees or less is just to severe for any kind of predictable turnout. And, if you will recall, this has been our policy for ages and ages...........'If the heat of the day doesn't exceed 50 degrees and you still want to ride call a friend to suffer with you'.

Nevertheless, for this week, bundle up, plug in all the electric gear, because after having all these nice fall days even 55 degrees will be like old man winter just crawled into your pants. I may even forego ice cream after lunch so you know how serious I take this turn of nature.

Here's the place.................................SKOOPS
7794 Hesston Road
(corner of Main Street and Old Hwy 81 - downtown Hesston)
Hesston, KS 67062
(620) 327-3111

Here's the time.................................12:30 pm

As always.................ride careful, ride safe and I'll see you in Hesston. Richard

Guys - Not a lot to report today other than this is another of those days where I just didn't have it all together. I did have my phone camera with me but failed to take it out and snap some shots. I seem to be taking way too much time mothering the attendance sheet along from table to table. I've tried in the past just locating it at the entrance or exit so guys could sign it, but that didn't seem to work so I'm back mothering it along again.
I keep hoping that someone else will step forward and post a few photos here and there. Everyone likes to see themselves in a picture and I'm afraid I'm just getting too busy to juggle all of those balls anymore. Leonard has been a real big help to me in this regard, but he's off to see his grandkids so it didn't get done today. I'm sure someone must have took a pic or two at sometime today so I that's you please just post a shot for posterity to prove we did in fact come here today.
We did have a decent turnout considering the cool weather. It didn't ever hit the magic 70 andd I could tell it on the way south. About 57 was as high as I felt. I can tell! Too cold for Joyce! She had important Thanksgiving matters to attend to or so she said.
Twenty-eight clustered around the front 'till their orders were called and the town knew we were there. Bikes filled the parking lot and were all the way up to the front door on both sides. Quite a site and not one cop came by to check us out. Quite unusual. I guess with Dan's right outside of town the're used to this by now.
Gary Dohm on a two tone deluxe won high mileage today with a measly 73 miles. The oil had hardly time enough to heat up.
I guess that says volumns about the miles that the rest of you guys reported. Don Typer reported 1.5 miles for low miles. His pipes are probably already rusting from the moisture that he didn't get burnt off.
It's all in fun though and I love every moment of it. Can't wait in fact until next Wednesday. Wish I could tell 'ya where it will be but I'm just not that efficient this time of year. 'Gotta wait until I see the next week forecast!
Attendance is holding up though judging by the number of towns represented. Ten towns were indicated. They being.....
Hutch
Salina
Cuba
Canton
Lindsborg
Wichita
Abilene
McPherson
Derby and
Hesston.

We had a good range of machines as well...
Yamaha/Star
Honda
BMW
Kawasaki
Guzzi
Ural.............................................and a Dodge RAM
oh my gosh, I forgot the Harley. Thanks for reminding me!

Nothing like an old carbed EVO with drag pipes for the Harley sound. Unless of course you have a Pan or a Shovel. They all sound good to me. When I was in high school I had a 42 "45" Flat Head. It wern't no speed demon, but it was a lot of fun. Those old buddy seats were great for taking girls for rides. I took this one girl for a ride and right away I new I didn't have a chance. We have been married 53 years now. I have liked Harleys ever since, although I have had a few other bikes in between. Motorcycles are just plane fun, all of them.
