South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday, October 10, 11:00 AM

Post by roginoz »

Some of the ROMEOs have been here before, but if our group has it was before my time. We're looking at decent weather next week, so let's head out east to the tail end of the Flint Hills. It looks to be dry on Wednesday, but possibly cooler than we've been used to; time to break out the heavier jackets, perhaps.

I spoke to Lila, and she's looking forward to having us visit for lunch. It's a small place with a small staff, so you might want to consider the daily special to keep things moving along, Lila said that she'd have three different meats available on the special so that we could have some variety and still get served quickly.

Piedmont is just south of US400, about 55 miles east of Wichita. Beware of the 50 mph speed zone as you pass through Leon on the way there. (We may get there before the guy with the radar gun takes his lunch break...)

I have a few break-in miles on the new bike now, so I think I'll ride it to Piedmont. (Hopefully the rest of our group won't mind the speed changes and engine braking while I continue the break-in process,)

It was a bit chilly when we started out this morning, especially on an un-faired bike, but the day got better and better as it progressed. Lunch at Lila's was great; everyone was commenting on the good food and the good service. They had fried chicken, baked pork chops, and chicken fried steak as the daily specials. My quick survey of the group revealed that it was all good. Seven bucks for the meal, including a drink and homemade pie. If you missed today's ride, you can take some comfort in the fact that we'll be going back. We had twenty six riders, according to the sign-in book.

Special thanks to Brian, Steve, and Mickey for holding our speed to sixty while I worked on breaking in my new bike. (After another two hundred and seventy miles I can change the oil and fully open her up...)

Here's a photo for Woody and those who didn't get a change to see the new addition to my garage. (I'll still tour on the ST1300, but the new bike will get some service on the ROMEO rides and similar short jaunts. It's a 2012 Harley Davidson XR1200X. (Yeah, I never thought I'd own a Harley, but this one's unlike anything they've ever made.)
