Wednesday North Central ROMEO Lunch Ride for 10-03-12

Post by Richard »

Guys - I'm still searching for a place out West............check back later for an answer!

OK, here we go. I wanted to try and pull the Hays guys back into the fold this week. I missed them by being at the Arkansas Rendezvous last time thay came and wanted a chance to visit with them about their area. This should do it without getting too extreme for some of our regular riders. We've been to this little place last year and had not only a good ride but a great meal as well. What's not to like about a deal like that?
This, if you remember, is the first Wednesday of the month and the day of my Sr. Center Board commitment so I've set the meal time back by thirty minutes. This was fine with the cafe because they have a regular group that normally arrive straight up eleven so things worked our marvelously. I'll do my best to make it by taking the interstate and burning up the road so I won't be too late. Never too late to eat in any event! Oh yes, I'll bring some shirts and stickers for any of the new guys that might want one....or two.
Most of the time we head out this direction we end up eating ice cream at either Ellsworth or Marquette so don't be surprised if we do it again unless someone would rather have pie in Wilson. If we go there, I just hope it's nobodys birthday, if you remember what happened to that 'old' guy last time we were there.

Here's the place............................Hometown Cafe
116 N. Main
Sylvan Grove, Kansas 67481

Here's the time.................................11:30 am

As always......................ride careful, ride safe and I'll see you in Sylvan Grove. Richard

Guys - First, I want to thank Pat for the photos of the day. It's so nice to be able to see the object of his lens sharply rather than thru my phone cam that only slightly resembles what the subject matter may be. I did however come up with a different count than his 35 bikes. The sign in sheet reflects 39, and since I had a passenger, we had a total of 40 in attendance. A wonderful turnout and a great day to ride, I'm sure you will agree.
I don't recall what the special was called but it filled my plate and lapped over each side. Some sort of mexican wrap. Mine was delicious.
Long distance honors were split between our friends from Cuba. Jim Davidson recorded 115 miles from Cuba on his 'Davidson' and his cohort, Nick day, also from Cuba reported the same mileage on his Harley.
Just a note of concern here, do you ever notice how little press is ever given to the 'D' of H-D fame. The bikes are constantly referred to as Harleys yet the family with the most notable tie is the Davidson name. It's not Willy G. Harley for crying out loud, it's Willy G. Davidson. Is it just me that notices this or am I singing alone in the forest? How did this begin, inquiring minds want to know not that anyone cares....right?
I had been hoping we could begin getting some guys from out West to join us for some lunch rides and the drought seems to have ended. The past few lunches we have been blessed with several guys from the Hays area, Dave Wasinger, Bill Wasinger and Bill Lattin . Great to have you guys join us and we hope you like what you saw. It's not an earth shattering event, these lunch rides, just a good time. Good rides to small towns typically less than a thousand and usually struggling to make ends meet. Mostly with very good home cooked food.
But, here's the best part......no dues......no fees......no meetings......no responsibilities.......no agenda.......no officers......no by-laws.........what could there be to not like.
Now, I'm not so naive as to believe we're the only bunch out there having a really good time while providing our own brand of economic stimulus, but I've not found anything else that even comes close.
The powers that be in the tourism branch of Kansas have even stopped to take notice of who we are and what we do.
You guys are just the best.
Here's a list of where we came from today.......Salina
Holyrood
Lindsborg
Abilene
Minneapolis
Enterprise
Cuba
Hutchinson
Hays
McPherson
Canton
Nickerson

Thanks guys for making my job such a joy!
