South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday, March 14, 11:00 A

Post by roginoz »

The current forecast for next Wednesday calls for sunny and seventy-eight degrees. Yes, SUNNY AND SEVENTY-EIGHT DEGREES! (Wind from the SSE at 13 mph, too.) Anyone with a functioning motorcycle ought to get out and ride on a day like that.

It’s time to head north, and Whitewater was suggested last week while we were dining in Winfield. The North Central group was there a week ago, but I don’t think we’ve been for a while. Mom’s cafe is a little small, but we always fit in. Whitewater isn’t too far away (only about thirty miles from Wichita) but the early risers can take the long way there if they want to get in some extra miles. (Late sleepers like me can take the long way home…)

TIME:
11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 14

PLACE:
Mom’s Cafe
213 So. Main
Whitewater, Kansas 67154

It looks like things are getting even better: the Weather Channel says partly cloudy and eighty-one degrees for this coming Wednesday.

Rumor has it that there is a "Small Group" meeting at MotorSports ( 31st Street & Hwy K-15 ) at 10:15 for the ride to Whitewater..

We had a good turnout today. Roger has the count. Here are some pix I took of the riders.

It was a great day to ride; a little windy riding east to west (I was on the KLR,) a bit cloudy when we left for lunch, but sunny and warm by the time we headed home. Spring may have arrived early, which is fine with me.

There were thirty-three in attendance, as I recall. (Brian has the sign-in book, since I hope to be in Oklahoma next week.) The cafe staff was up to the challenge, however, and we were all fed well and quickly. It's hard to beat chicken fried steak with homemade rolls. The peanut butter pie was possibly the best I've ever had.

It was also a nice day to sit or stand around outside, so most of us hung around a bit longer than usual to solve the problems of the world as we saw them. Gen. Bob and Co. were last seem heading west, reportedly to Skoops for some ice cream. John, Cary, and Brian followed me back to the garage so that they could see the inner workings of the ST1300 that's undergoing a valve adjustment.

John covered the interior shots, so I'll just post some of the bikes and people outside, before and after lunch.
