Wednesday North Central ROMEO LunchRide for 6-08-11

Post by Richard »

Guys - Here's one with a 'new owner'. I like going back to these kind of places since the 'old' guy usually hasn't told 'em about us. The last time we were there we had a whopper of a turnout. I haven't returned to the date to look at the actual numbers but I know they were BIG!
This year there's a possibility of some others visiting us as well since the weather is going to be in the 90's and I recall a ginormous tree right in the center where we can get a respite from the sun if clouds are a wee bit thin. We won't be too awfully far from a cycle shop or two for those of us that don't get a chance to venture down this way very often so put on the gear, gas up the tank and meet us down there.

Here's the place..............................Bull's Eye Grill
3408 E. Red Rock Road
Yoder, Kansas 67585
620-465-2855
Ruby Miller, New Owner

As always..........ride careful, ride safe and I'll see you in Yoder. Richard

Guys - Hot and Windy! Hot and Windy! Hot and Windy! Hot and Windy! Boy, that just about sums up the day today but it didn't seem to affect the turnout at the Bulls Eye Grill in Yoder. The new owner was overwhelmed by out attendance today and asked us to come back often. We had 32 sign in on the register. I think we got everyone counted but one never quite knows with the coming and going. It seemed about right to me though.
The Northern group arrived a bit late which may have been a blessing since the seating is somewhat limited inside. It wasn't necessarily planned that way but just kind of happened. The Salina group left up there at 10 and stopped by to pick up the Lindsborg contingent and we headed out at 10:30 with Louie in the lead. We were having a time of the cross winds when we finally turned South and the wind fight eased a bit. After a few miles, we came upon a slow moving piece of farm machinery and the early part of the chain made it through 'till the hill with a no passing line caused the rest of us to hang back waiting our chance. By the time it arrived, the lead group had long since disappeared. When we came up to a 'T', I just guessed the direction and took off, figuring we could find our way even if we didn't eventually catch up with 'em. And we wouldn't have if not for the road construction we ran into many miles later. When we came upon it who should we find waiting in line but our 'lost' ROMEOS waiting on the pilot car.
We didn't arrive until after 11:30 but it did give the little place time enough to clear out some folks so we could get right in.
Another good visit with the fine group of folks from the Southern group which we always enjoy seeing because they have a different taste in bikes than we do and it's always a treat to see the difference. I especially like C.J's Stallion even though it might not qualify as a 'bike' to the hard nosed among us!
Here's a list of where some of the guys came from today. Salina, Hutchison, Holyrood, Towanda, Wichita, Garden Plain, McPherson, Maize, Chase and Lindsborg. That's quite an area if you stop to consider the distance from one place to another. Another great gulf would be in the bikes that were parked out front. This is what makes our group truly unique! You are apt to see most anything, and what a joy that is! I spotted an XS 400 Yamaha like the one I used to have. It was the first bike that I ever took a thousand mile trip on. It was a bit cramped for both Joyce and me on it but I do recall that it had the absolute smoothest set of gears on it than any other bike I've ever had. Not only that but I won a wheel spinning contest on it. Spun by hand with the bike on the centerstand, the wheel with chain attached rolled for over two minutes, surpassing all others by over a minute and a half. That was a little improvised Aspencade contest to prove how little drag was induced by regular well lubricated chains over the new 'o' ring type just coming into vogue. Meaningless memories....such is life!
Thanks Pat for the super photos posted below! Happy to see that you got the log in problem fixed.

Patrick:
Thanks for sharing the pictures. I enjoy seeing the guys/bikes and places of the other groups. I especially like the guys sitting under the shade tree.
