Re: Remember when?
Remember when in the fifties and sixties when the automobile manufacturers would try to hide where the gas fillers were on a car?
1957 Chevy - behind the chrome tail fin?
1959 Cadillac - behind the pointed tail lights?
And so on?

Re: Remember when?
Remember when you ran straight 50w oil in your bike. It would aways wet sump overnight and it would take 10 min. of hard kicking to get the oil out of the crankcase so you could start it. By the time you got it running you had worked up a good sweat, then froze your butt off riding to work.

Re: Remember when?
I can remember glass milk jugs delivered to our front door, and large cans of Charles Chips delivered as well.
How about raking and burning all the leaves in the fall??
How about going to a movie with your girlfriend and spending 15 cents each to get in, and another dime for the popcorn??

Going to western movie on Sat. in early 50"s in Salina Ks for 10 cents. Watched several cartoons an Gene Autry, Durango Kid, or Roy Rodgers movies were just a few. Go to drive in in Abilene in mom and dad's old 36 Chevy pickup with my two younger sisters and brother. We sat or layed down in bed with blankets and brought popcorn to eat that mom made at home. Drank Nehi grape pop in small bottles that we brought from home. Usually paid so much per car to get in.

Remember when...the dimmer switch was on the floor and the light for hi-beams was red, not blue.

Re: Remember when?
Nortons, Triumphs and BSA's were languishing in garages across the nation--unwanted and unloved because of the "superior" Japanese bikes--and could be purchased for about $1.00 per cc. Cushman's also had not appreciated and there were rare finds. Fast forward--now the throwaway jap stuff is collectible. Who knew?
Maybe we should buy up Hyosongs.

Remember when the spark advance was on the left handle grip. Thats way back when pop and a single dip cone were both a nickle.

Did you ever pass your buddy and reach down and turn off his gas or ignition on the way by?

Yes, I do remember pulling the key out of the brit bikes that had them on the side panel--and as far as "parking" on your bike--I think us early riders had far more opportunity in picking up "companions" as during that golden era, bikes were less common and presented a "mystique" to the babes.Klem wrote:Did you ever pass your buddy and reach down and turn off his gas or ignition on the way by?

Anyone remember kickstarting the early XLCH Sporsters? Quite a drill. Often took the heel off your boot if it backfired during a lame kick--and sometimes caught the air cleaner on fire, which required another complete kick to put it out.
