Re: Doug Hollandsworth
When I saw that someone had posted an obituary notice on our Romeo site for Doug Hollandsworth and in the obituary it mentioned that he participated in the ROMEO’s, I wondered if I knew Doug. If you are like me I know a lot of faces but I am not too good with names. On our website I found that Doug had joined the Romeo website on December 16, 2009 and he posted a picture of himself at the Dragon. I did not know Doug well, but I did remember seeing him at some of the Romeo lunches. The article stated that motorcyclists were invited to make the sixty mile ride from the funeral home in Topeka to the cemetery in Easton. I really don’t know why but I felt like I should ride with the Doug on his last ride, but I did. I arrived at the funeral home about 30 minutes early and there were already more then twenty bikes there.
After a short ceremony his ashes were placed in the trunk of his beautiful Candy Apple Red Gold Wing and the thirty-two bike procession headed off on Doug’s final bike ride. There are few rides that have meant so much to me. The solemnest, the peacefulness and the serenity of the ride through parts of the country that meant so much to Doug was very heart warming. After a short ceremony and some visiting at the cemetery we all met at Jae’s Grill in Winchester for lunch and home made pie. A very fitting end for a group of motorcyclists.
Doug Hollandsworth, must have been a very nice person and I hope he enjoyed his last ride.
