Check out this site, lots of good places. One in particular is the The Prairie Nut Hut in Altoona. Their specialty is mountain oysters, but they have great food otherwise. It is a neat old bar, you eat peanuts and throw the shells on the floor kind of place. Its south of Topeka on 75, maybe an hour and a half ride.

That's a pretty neat web site, Robin. I think we should make a run to the Nut Hut in Altoona a priority when the weather gets nice.Robin wrote:Check out this site, lots of good places. I realize it is a really small place, but maybe the ride cooridinators could put together a combined lunch ride for both groups. Since the ROMEO's are a patient bunch we could all hang out and visit while some are in eating. I think a really nice day in June would be purrrfect! It's a small place in a small town...just right.
What does Don and Richard think? I would be happy to do what I could to help make it happen.

The Nut hut is a place I have been going to visit and never made it down. I doubt if it will be a destination for a lunch but would be a fun place to go with a few guys. I have heard that the Oysters are a weekend special, not sure and as you mentioned the size of the place pretty much eliminates it for the whole group.
Yes Robin that is a nice website. Several of the places we have been too, probably most of those when there was just one group. Of course the majority are places that don't fit in our normal selection process, small town, mom and pop type place. But everyone of them would make an interesting destination for a ride.

Guys - The 'Nut Hut' is indeed a neat place. We've been there in fact but it's been several years ago back in '03 if memory serves. It is indeed time for another trip but I would defer that location to the Eastern contingent. Richard
