Pomme De Terre Campout ( Mo.)

Post by arkyleo »

Greetings all--I'm a new member just able to log on today ( Thanks, Jerry :D ). I have a little more info on the campout that we discussed in Bartlesville as I contacted them and a rangerette called me back.
This outing is planned for the weekend after Easter--April 17th & 18th. Location is on the Pittsburg (East) side of the Lake and probably in the 400 loop, as those sites are not reservable and that loop has several basic tent sites with fire rings. The rangerette suggested sites 416, 417 & 418, but said at that time of year, everything is pretty much open.
2 tents per site, $10 per site per night. Firewood is available at the marina which is also open for breakfast. Beer is ok and the marina has ice. One of the rangers will come around to collect. As soon as the rain blows through here I plan on riding up there to check it out a little closer and will post again with more info. Cheers! Leo ;)

This looks like a great opportunity to test out some of my new camping gear for Alaska/Yukon. Walt Hoffman and I plan on attending.

Started out Wed. to Pomme De Terre to physically check out the planned camp area, but at Marshfield Mo on 38 I was almost blown off the road in a driving rain--so I headed back South. Anyway, this is kind of an open to ideas, places to eat and places to ride sort of get together, so keep your eyes open on the way and mark any neat spots. One thought would be to ride to El Dorado Cycles in El Dorado Mo on Sat. Can't beat Randy's prices on new bikes.
Looking forward to the gathering and hope the weather decides to co-operate for us. Leo

Leo...can you post a more exact location for the campout. The maps I am looking at show Nemo on the east side, Pittsburg in the middle between the two sides of the lake. I see a south entrance to the west park and a north entrance near Nemo to the east park. Is the camping locations in the west or east side of the park?

A GREAT mini-rally !! We had 11 riders/bikes on Fri. and 7 Sat. eve. ( it rained) Lots of good riding on all the lake roads and places to eat that you want to write home about. Sat ride was to El Dorado Cycles (MO) .
There was some discussion about a fall campout, maybe at Sam A. Baker Park, also in Mo. off of 34 and the 143 loop. Several of us have stayed there before--the facilities are excellent and the lodge/restaurant is superb. We will try to pick a date that doesn't interfere with any other previously planned events--or maybe since most of us are retired, in the middle of the week. Always open to ideas to all you happy campers. Leo :D

Even with the rain then combined cold ride home today, it was a great time. Lot's of BS, lies, one or two beers comsumed, and Terry enlightened us all about the area. A fall event would be great as there are never enough of them. Thanks for setting this up Leo.
