Ghost towns and Dirt roads

Post by Bird Man »

Anyone want to ride dual sport in Anderson county

I have put together a backroads/dual sport ride route in western Anderson county. It is 75-90 miles long depending on a few options one might choose. The route takes in no less than 11 miles of dirt roads/paths ,a couple easy “off road” paths, high pasture country , creek bottoms with a few water crossings and 4 small (ghost) rural America towns. All in all a senic ride with views of up to 20 miles at times.

The ride begins in Westphalia and wanders east through Mount Ida and then for a lunch option south to colony to a small town café for lunch. After lunch, north east towards Garnett, going north just to the west of Garnett through the Pottawattamie and Cedar creek bottoms then turning west. After riding west we go south through Harris and south west back to Westphalia again.

. Leaving Westphalia at 9:30 AM should put us in Colony for lunch around 11:30, an hour for lunch, an estimated 3 more hours to finish the ride will bring us back to Westphalia by 3:30 PM. The start and ride times are flexable according to the groups wishes.

There are credit card gas pumps in Westphalia and Harris (Colony? Will check it out. ) The route takes us within a couple miles of Garnett also.

I am willing lead this ride if any of you would like to come ride it with me. Hopefully the weather will hold a few more weeks and we can get the ride in before it gets to cold
I can do the ride as soon as this coming Saturday Oct. 16. Although waiting till the 23rd or the 30th will give everyone more time to plan.
I am new at this so let me know what you think. We can set the date after some response comes in.

I have decided to do Ghost towns and dirt roads dual sport ride this weekend Saturday Oct. 16. The weather forcast is good and this may be the last chance this fall to ride in such good conditions. We had just over 2 inches of rain sunday and monday so dust should not be much of an issue.

We will meet at Westphalia Ks. in front of the Cathloic church ,it is the first brick building on the right/west as you come into town from the north. Arrive in time to kick stands up and leave town at 10:00 AM

I just brought my new dual sport home yesterday, was hoping you might do that next weekend! Sorry I missed it but I guess it's quite a jaunt from Wichita anyway! Hope you had a great ride!

We had a fun ride and a great time. Stopped in at Colony cafe for a tasty lunch. Weather was perfect.
I am sure I will do another one sometime.

Yes it is a long dual sport ride from Wichita to Westphalia
