South Central Breakfast Ride: Wednesday, August 12, 9:00 AM

It's time to head north, so let's ride the thirty miles to Whitewater and have breakfast at Mom's. It's been about five months since we were there for lunch; probably a lot longer since we've been there for breakfast.

Mom's Cafe is a bit small, but they can handle number of riders we've been having lately. Our favorite waitress, Delores, has retired, but the food will still be good (and hopefully there's still homemade jam and jelly to go on our toast.)

The weather should be back to the normal August heat, but it looks like the chance of rain will be minimal. Temperatures shouldn't be too bad around breakfast time.

Please keep sitting in smaller groups, and wear your mask until seated. We haven't seen the end of the COVID19 pandemic. The South East Kansas group lost one of its members recently, and many of us are in a vulnerable age group. (Yeah, I was also surprised to find out that at sixty-nine I'm “elderly.”) In addition we need to be respectful of the small communities who host us by minimizing the risk to the people who live and work there. If you have serious underlying health conditions, or close contact with someone who does, it's best to stay home. If you've been to one of the “hot spots,” or been exposed to someone who has tested positive, skip a couple of rides. We can only continue meeting as a group by observing the appropriate precautions.

We'll be returning to lunch rides in a couple of weeks. If you have any suggestions, new or old favorites, let me know.

It was a cloudy, misty and foggy day, but that didn't discourage 16 ROMEO's from mounting their trusty steeds and rolling to Whitewater for breakfast at Mom's Cafe. Well, Mom's never disappoints! Service was quick and friendly, coffee mugs promptly refilled and the food was bountiful and delicious.

We logged 643 one-way miles by my ciphering, with Jr. and Irvin posting 75 miles for the longest ride today.
