As you know, the state has begun to relax some of the restrictions that have prohibited us from meeting on a weekly basis for our ROMEO gathering at a local restaurant. As the size of gatherings is gradually increasing to a level that more easily accommodates the typical size of our group, the restrictions for social distancing and seating in restaurants still makes it problematic for many restaurants to handle our group. Many restaurants are still operating only on a carry-out basis and others are severely limiting the numbers they can serve inside so it does limit where we might be able to resume.

Swanee and I visited at length about how best to resume and we decided it would be best to begin at restaurants that are open for both breakfast and lunch so that would allow us to spread out our impact by not arriving all at once. Those that want to eat breakfast can arrive early and those that want lunch can arrive a bit later. That is actually not too different from the way things were going before the shutdown occurred so in that respect things won't change all that much. We should still respect the 6 foot social distancing requirements and seating restrictions that affect businesses and follow other rules that they have in place to protect the safety of staff and customers.

We also know that many of the places we have gone have been severely impacted by the shutdown and if they reopen, they may reopen with downsized staff numbers that may affect serving times and service in general so keep that in mind. If you are not comfortable with going inside you may just want to ride by or stay outside and visit and that is ok too. All of us have different levels of concern and differences in risk factor that may guide our decisions on how or when or if to participate again and that is certainly understandable.

Since I am committed to physical therapy appointments on Wednesdays through at least June, Swanee will be setting up rides for the month. He is currently calling restaurants to ascertain whether they are open, if they are serving inside and what their capacities and comfort level with handling our group are. As soon as he finds one that fits our criteria and is willing to host us, he will post the ride, EITHER LATER TODAY OR SATURDAY FOR SURE. So check back later and decide if you can join us in resuming our Wednesday tradition that we have all really missed!!
