Those who've been around ROMEO some years will remember this same location in downtown Osky as Rose's Cafe which is long gone. It re-opened awhile back and is called the Wind Wagon. Now this is not a real huge place, the kind that fit ROMEO groups just fine back in the day. If it rains like at least one forecast says then we won't have a crowd anyway. If it's dry and warm enough to get a whole bunch of bikes out then I expect some will opt for breakfast (served until 11:00am). That should keep us from all walking in at the same time and the young lady I talked to didn't seem to mind when I told her how many bikes we had this past Wednesday.
Like Rose's it's still a friendly down-home kinda place that you can tell is popular with the locals. Nice riding weather yesterday afternoon put me in that direction so stopped by and got a generous slice of German chocolate cake--really good! See you Wednesday at:

We had between 25 and 30 today with most everybody riding as far as I could tell. The vast majority came for breakfast on this really nice day and some were planning to do considerably more riding once they chowed down. A table of guys from Desoto were already finishing up breakfast by the time I got there. The young lady serving us did a good job though once we had a whole bunch of ROMEOs seated in this not too big of a place some did have to wait a bit. The consensus I heard was that it was worth the wait and food real good--I know mine was! This cafe even has a cool book that someone put together with articles and pictures of the "wind wagons" from which the place takes its name. Interesting--not being a Kansas native I had once thought wind wagons were a Walt Disney invention but a few of them were actually made for real in the open prairie days. Thanks to places like the Wind Wagon Cafe that unique mode of transportation concocted by some clever Kansans in the 1800's will not be forgotten.
Great day to be in a classic Kansas town like Oskaloosa to enjoy some good eats, BS with other ROMEOs, and do some riding. Hope you all got some good miles in today and see you next week.
