AUGUST 7TH, BREAKFAST or LUNCH, 9:00 AM, GREEN ACRES FAMILY RESTAURANT, VASSAR, KS‬

Post by Al Hayes »

This week’s pick will be Green Acres Family Restaurant, Vassar, KS. Most of us are familiar with it, as it is one of our favorites. It is the one and only cafe near the Pomona Dam on Ks. Hwy 268. The cafe always graciously reserves the back room just for us.

Lately I’ve been constantly reminded of the “Dog Days of Summer,” which cannot be avoided for our times of riding. So, for the month of August I will be primarily concentrating on breakfast rides for those who don’t want to endure the heat yet not ruling out the lunch crowd who don’t mind riding in the heat. As of now, if the weather prediction holds, the high will be in the upper 80’s. Could we be so lucky?

So, breakfast or lunch, come early or late, it won’t matter the time. It’s entirely your call . . . leaving it up to whatever "trips your trigger!" Just come and enjoy the day! So to everyone, “Happy Trails to you until we meet again!”

As I’m sitting here gazing at my computer screen and getting ready to post our yesterday’s ride, my thoughts keep reviewing the almost perfect weather we had for the “Dog Days of August!” “Ole Man Summer” threw me a curve ball. Before posting this ride I had the impression that it was going to be “Hot as . . .” well you all get the picture. Instead of it being beastly hot, it turned out be a quite cool spring day. Now, if it sounds like I’m complaining, I’m not. For it was a pleasant treat and surprise and I couldn’t have been more thrilled with the day.

Because of getting a later start, I did miss seeing those of you who came and left long before my arrival. Of course, posting our arrival time for 9am didn’t help me none. I only have myself to blame. I’m still of the persuasion to post early rides for August. I trust that everyone will forgive me if my long-range foresight doesn’t match “Ole Man Summer!”

Ok, enough for my chattering, and I assume everyone enjoyed the day as I did. Now, here are the photos for yesterday’s ride . . . enjoy!
